The Annual Spring Conference of the EYC of the Diocese of Western North Carolina was held at the Valle Crucis Conference Center during the weekend of March 14-16, 2003. Youth from all over our Diocese came to Valle Crucis to discuss the theme of "War and Peace." They spent the weekend discussing these very important topics with a variety of speakers and activities planned by the Youth Council and David McNair. One of their activities was to make peace cranes by folding different colored paper into the shape of cranes. These cranes were then hung all around the dining room as a testament to peace in the world. On Saturday afternoon the youth participated in the planting of a Peace Pole on the grounds of the Conference Center below the dinner bell. This pole is about six feet tall and has inscription placed on each of its four sides proclaiming "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in four different languages. The four languages that were chosen by the Youth Council were English, Hebrew, Arabic, and Korean.
The next time you visit Valle Crucis, please come by and see our Peace Pole!
